Bahuichivo 2014

Introduction

For a long time I have wanted to visit Copper Canyon and get meet the Tarahumara Indians. I finally made contact someone in Bahuivchivo who had access to the Tarahumara and had done many projects with them.  Doug picked us up from the train station and took us to the hotel. Later on he introduced us to a couple of Tarahumara families. One of the highlights of the visit was being invited into one of their houses and watching a mom iron the pleats of the skirt of her daughter. The iron was placed directly on the fire to heat. Doug also took us to a school where many Tarahumara girls board and attend school. Doing a project here looked very promising until one day while driving in the mountains we ran into a paramilitary group hiking down the road. We decided that for security reasons we would not be returning. Nevertheless it was beautiful trip and the Tarahumara were wonderful people.
