Project #3 - Needs Assessment

​     To help guide us on future projects we met with the leaders of the village and discussed their needs and projects that they might be interested in us doing. Their first concern was water, they had a shortage of water and it was often contaminated. There ground water is contaminated with salt and a charitable organization had built them a desalinization plant. Unfortunately the plant had come under disrepair and was no longer functioning. They walked us around the village where we could see their empty tajamars (water storage mountains) and broken windmill. We also visited many individual houses and looked at their rain collection systems and domestic water use.  The next concern was fuel for cooking. Women in the community would walk many kilometers looking for firewood. They tended to use large branches to create their fires. Third we looked at their housing. Although a charitable organization had built their roofs and rain collection systems, most of the houses were missing most of their walls and there was no flooring.
