Cuzco 2012
Introduction
This was the second year in a row that we worked with Reach out and Learn.
Just like last year we participated in the Public Health Conference in Cuzco. I taught a course on developing fitness programs to prevent injuries in the elderly population. It was based off a program we have been using in the Health Science Department at BYU Idaho. I was also called upon to translate for presentations on Asthma, Carbon Monoxide poisoning, and skin cancer. At the end of the conference we were able to take a tour of the new NICU wing at the Regional Hospital.
In addition to the conference, we visited the village of Kollotaro where we held a medical clinic, built rocket stoves, showed them how to make their own Water Pasteurization Indicators (WAPI's), made bracelets with the children and completed a village assessment.
On our last day there, we visited the village of Ccasacunca, I directed the class on constructing a solar oven while others built rocket stoves. We handed out hygiene and sewing kits and got to be entertained by the adorable children.
