Project #8 - Newborn Hygiene Kits

​    Newborn children in Abundancia face severe hygiene issues and the infant mortality rate is high. The local hospital is over a half mile away and almost no one has transportation. Most babies are born at home and often directly on the ground. Two of my students put together 5 newborn kits that included a small blanket, hat, an outfit, soap, small towel and a pacifyer. 4 of these kits were given to women that recently had recently given birth. A fifth kit was given to the chief of a neighboring village who had a young girl who had just had a baby.
